Pressure Monitoring to become More Convenient with Non-invasive Devices

Increasing pressure instabilities in vital parts of the body frequently lead to chronic conditions such as cardiac disorders, respiratory disorders, and glaucoma. This has led to high demand for pressure monitoring devices.

Unhealthy lifestyle may result in high prevalence of cardiac disease. Hypertension is commonly observed among people with history of cardiac disorders, with high BP being the most common symptom. Therefore, BP monitoring devices exhibit high demand among these patients.

Low level of oxygen in the blood may lead to problems such as increased shortness of breath and pulse rate and oxygen monitoring devices are highly required to monitor a patient’s oxygen level in the blood.

Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring plays an important role in diagnosing pressure related to the nervous system and blood vessel tissues to evade any harm to the brain.

Glaucoma can be detected by determining eye pressure. Intraocular pressure (IOP) monitors are helpful to check IOP, which can change due to several factors such as a patient’s respiration and heart rate.

Invasive Vs Non-invasive Blood Pressure Monitoring

Invasive Blood Pressure (IBP) monitoring or intra-arterial blood pressure monitoring is usually used in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and operating rooms. This technique includes direct arterial pressure measurement by inserting a cannula needle in the appropriate artery. This is connected to a sterile system filled with fluid, which is linked to an electronic patient monitor system. A patient’s blood pressure is observed beat by beat, displaying a waveform.

Non-invasive measurement methods are generally used for routine check-ups and monitoring. Non-invasive oscillometric and auscultatory methods are easier and faster than invasive measurements, need less proficiency in fitting, and are less painful for patients. However, non-invasive measures may have comparatively lower accuracy and may present minor variances in numerical results.

Recently, Philips Healthcare developed a health watch that helps track heart rate and other metrics related to cardiac conditions and activities, even while sleeping. Users can obtain personalized information and guidance with the Philips Health Suite health app. Other products such as wrist and arm blood pressure monitors are also helpful for measuring blood pressure and heart rate. These systems are connected to the health app.

Market Overview

According to a report by Grand View Research, Inc., the global pressure monitoring market is predicted to value USD 11.9 billion by 2025. Blood pressure monitoring devices dominated the market in 2016 due to increasing prevalence of cardiac disorders and hypertension. In 2016, North America dominated the market. Asia Pacific is anticipated to exhibit lucrative growth during the forecast period (2014 to 2025) due to rising geriatric population in China.

Key players operating in the market include Medtronic, Philips Healthcare, GE Healthcare, Becton, and Welch Allyn.

First off, thanks for sharing the article Sherry. I agree with you, hypertension is a growing problem all over the world and the children today are affected by this too. An increase in demand of these blood pressure monitor is only natural.
